What kinds of jobs are available?
Youth workers will be matched with opportunities in their communities. Most jobs will be in government agencies or nonprofits. You may be shelving books in a library and reading to preschoolers. You might be maintaining a school building. You could be sorting clothing for a shelter or helping bag groceries at the food pantry.

What hours would I work?
Hours depend on the needs of your worksite. Generally people work from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a half-hour lunch break, on weekdays, but your hours could vary. You will not be assigned weekend hours.

Can I attend summer school and work?
Yes, if you need to make up credits, you are urged to attend summer school. Work can be scheduled around your school hours.

I will graduate in June. Can I work?
Summer work opportunities are available for those 14 to 24 years old. You can be in high school, be a high school graduate or dropout or be in college.

Who is hiring?
Workers will be hired by GLEAMNS Human Resources Commission, a contractor for the Workforce Investment Act program. Funds come from the US Department of Labor. Money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act allows the Upper Savannah One-Stop Workforce System to offer more jobs this summer.

How do I apply?
Since funding for the summer jobs comes from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program, all workers must qualify for WIA. You will be asked to complete a pre-application. If it looks like you might be eligible, you will be scheduled for an eligibility interview.

Who is eligible?
There are eligibility guidelines based on family income during the past six months. If a family member has been out of work during that time, you might be eligible. You also might be eligible if your family receives food stamps or if you have a disability. If there is a possibility that you might be eligible, turn in a pre-application.
