Qualified workers participating in the Workforce Investment Act program can be given short-term work experience assignments with businesses and non-profit organizations.
Wages, FICA and Workers' Compensation are paid by a contractor through the WIA program.
Work Experience assignments allow employers to "try-out" potential workers before hiring them.
Length of assignment varies from three weeks (most adults) to ten weeks for youth trainees.
